How AI answers are built

Google’s guidance connects AI Overviews and AI Mode to its core Search foundations. A treatment page must be discoverable and eligible for Search before it can be useful as a supporting link. There is no special AI schema that buys inclusion, and eligibility does not promise that a clinic will be recommended.

Start with an observable question: can the practice’s own treatment information be crawled, indexed and understood? Check the site’s eligibility and generative-AI settings in Search Console against Google’s current guide. Keep the explanation useful to a patient who lands on it, rather than creating a separate thin page for every variation of a keyword.

What a clinic should actually do

The work is specific rather than glamorous. Treat it as maintenance of the answers your patients actually search for:

  • Write treatment information that answers a real patient question. A clear opening answer is useful to readers; it is not a special format that secures an AI citation.
  • Keep the Business Profile current: hours including holidays, services offered, parking, and the category set to the actual practice type.
  • Respond to reviews, including critical ones, in a measured tone; Google’s local guidance names replies as a factor in standing out.
  • Link related treatments where that helps a patient choose a next step. Keep the essential explanation in readable page text, alongside useful supporting images.
  • Match structured data to the visible text on the page — Google’s AI features guidance warns against markup that disagrees with what users see.

What to ask before hiring anyone for this

Ask what will be checked and which business action follows the visibility. A useful report connects the agreed search questions, the pages patients actually reach and the enquiries attributed to them. Distinguish an impression, a click and a booked appointment. For a clinic, those are different steps with different owners. Treat promises of a fixed place in an AI answer as a reason to ask harder questions, not as a result already earned.
